Weighing System Components
Load cell : The heart of any scale system is the load cell, which performs the exact weighing. A simple definition would be a solid metal body to which strain gauges are attached. Once force is applied to the load cell body, as a result, the resistance in the strain gauge changes. The amount of force can be determined by measuring the change in resistance due to the deformation of the spring element. Junction box: In a multi-cell weighing system, the signals are routed through a junction box Because each load cell naturally has a slightly distinct mV/V output. Following calibration, each signal within the junction box is "trimmed" so that it outputs the same mV/V when a known force is applied. This process will ensure that the same load, irrespective of load position or orientation, will read the same at all points. Junction boxes also perform a summing function, which combines the outputs of the individual load cells so that the load appears to the digital indicator to be c
