Load cell


The heart of any scale system is the load cell, which performs the exact weighing. A simple definition would be a solid metal body to which strain gauges are attached. Once force is applied to the load cell body, as a result, the resistance in the strain gauge changes. The amount of force can be determined by measuring the change in resistance due to the deformation of the spring element.


Junction box:


In a multi-cell weighing system, the signals are routed through a junction box Because each load cell naturally has a slightly distinct mV/V output. Following calibration, each signal within the junction box is "trimmed" so that it outputs the same mV/V when a known force is applied. This process will ensure that the same load, irrespective of load position or orientation, will read the same at all points. Junction boxes also perform a summing function, which combines the outputs of the individual load cells so that the load appears to the digital indicator to be carried by a single load cell.


Indicator: 


A digital indicator is a device that amplifies and digitizes the signal from a load cell and communicates the force applied to a load cell to an operator through the use of a digital display. This data can also be sent to another machine or a PC, where it will trigger an action as part of a larger process. These fundamental actions include simple batching, check weighing and emergency shutoff. 


Programmable indicators can control more complex processes that involve custom programming, multiple data points, and auxiliary internal signal conditioning at a higher level.
